A breathtaking view & hike!!

Because today was Madaraka Day, a national holiday that celebrates the day in 1963 that Kenya attained internal self-rule after decades as a British colony, the hospital was closed so we had the day off! We went to Mount Longonot which is a volcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. Simon, Shadrack, and Charles joined us and we left this morning around 7:30 for a very bumpy ride to where we started hiking. To get to the rim of the volcano it was about 3.1 km (1.9 miles) and took us about an hourish to get to the top (with many breaks along the way!) The view was absolutely amazing and our pictures do not do it justice.

After the hike we headed to Lake Naivasha and went on a boat tour around the lake! We got to see some hippos and birds!!

Today was a very amazing day!! We are now resting and applying aloe to our sunburns! Tomorrow we are going on a safari!
